For more than 15 years, Mubadala has invested in tennis as a powerful platform to inspire, connect, and create opportunities for individuals and communities around the world.
Our journey began in 2009, when we launched the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. From day one, our vision extended beyond elite competition. We aim to bring world-class sport to our community while creating meaningful pathways for young players to learn, grow, and showcase their talent.
Today, that vision has expanded across three continents — from Abu Dhabi to Rio to Washington, D.C.— with Mubadala now a proud partner of some of the sport’s most prestigious events.
At every tournament, our goal is the same: to create access, visibility, and opportunity.
Whether through youth clinics, school activations, or internship programs like our collaboration with the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF), Mubadala is committed to building a more inclusive and diverse future for tennis.
In 2024, we expanded our efforts with the launch of the Mubadala x WTEF Internship Program, giving students firsthand experience in event operations, communications, and professional development at the Mubadala Citi DC Open. It’s one more way we’re turning passion into purpose — and potential into progress.
Across every touchpoint, Mubadala’s approach to tennis reflects our broader values: innovation, partnership, and long-term impact. Through sport, we are not only delivering unforgettable fan experiences but also investing in healthier, more connected communities for generations to come.
In 2024, Mubadala signed a transformative partnership with the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF) — a community institution that empowers youth in southeast Washington, D.C. through tennis, education, and character development.
At the heart of this partnership is a shared belief: that tennis is a vehicle for opportunity — on the court, in the classroom, and far beyond.
WTEF students are breaking academic barriers, gaining access to higher education, and developing into well-rounded, resilient leaders. Through mentorship and dynamic programming, young people are building confidence, leadership skills, and a mindset of excellence that extends into all areas of life.
Mubadala’s support has helped expand four of WTEF’s flagship programs, directly impacting more than 1,000 young people across southeast D.C.:
As part of this commitment, Mubadala launched the Mubadala x WTEF Internship Program at the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open. The program provides local high school and college students with hands-on experience in sports management, communications, and professional mentorship — connecting aspiration to real-world opportunities.
The impact of this partnership is global in scope and local in focus. At the 2024 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, Mubadala integrated community engagement, youth development, and cultural exchange into every aspect of the tournament. From grassroots tennis activations to women’s leadership forums and inclusive business networking events, Mubadala’s investment was built on the principles of access, empowerment, and sustainability.
Together with WTEF, Mubadala is building a platform where sport meets purpose — and where the next generation of leaders can thrive.
Mubadala’s commitment to tennis goes beyond titles and trophies. As a global investor, we believe in the power of sport to break down cultural barriers, inspire ambition, and build bridges between communities.
From Abu Dhabi to Washington, D.C., we are proud to use tennis as a platform to invest in the next generation of leaders, changemakers, and champions.
